Trust & safety

Trust starts with transparency

Administrator review is one part of the process—not a substitute for your own checks. Approach every private purchase with questions, documentation, and an independent assessment.

Demo draft · Not a final policy. This wording is for the Direct Owner demonstration and requires owner review before launch.

Listing review

Live listings require administrator approval before publication. Material changes to an approved listing send it back for review. Approval is not a vehicle inspection or an ownership guarantee.

Know who you’re dealing with

An account or approved listing does not establish a seller’s identity. Confirm that the person selling the vehicle has the authority to do so, and check that vehicle details match the paperwork.

Recognize warning signs

Be cautious about pressure to pay immediately, prices far below comparable vehicles, requests for gift cards, or a refusal to allow an inspection. Do not share account passwords or one-time security codes.

Plan your meeting

Choose a public location, let someone know your plans, and consider bringing another person. Arrange a specialist inspection before committing to a purchase.

Payment and title transfer

Agree on the transfer process in advance. Confirm title and lien details with the relevant state agency and lender. Direct Owner does not currently provide checkout, escrow, or purchase protection.

Raise a concern

Use the report form to share a suspicious listing or contact the team about an account concern. If you face an immediate threat, contact local emergency services.
